The Armor Men Back at it Again
Dr. Mistry and Dustin Fontenot P.A. will be trying new healthy-living things all over Austin. This month, the Men of Armor tried juicing, and lived to tell the tale.
We Tried A Daily Juice Cleanse So You Don’t Have To
Daily Juice has a lot going for it – 9 Austin area locations in every part of town, smoothies, 7 grab & go full-meal salads. There’s even a skip the line option when you order online. Daily Juice goes way beyond Starbucks, folks.
But the hallmark of every juicer – and what we really wanted to find out – is what a Juice Cleanse is really all about. Can juicing really leave you energized? Will you actually shed some pounds? Can you truly give up coffee and alcohol without losing your mind?
The Armor Men know about juicing. We’ve written about the the dos and don’ts of juicing before and believe, if done right, a juice cleanse is a great way to rejuvenate and clean out your body. But when Dr. Mistry and Dustin Fontenot P.A. took a 3 day challenge with the Daily Juice Cleanse, they had never taken the juice-leap before.
But Daily Juice makes the process easy and fun – when you sign up for a juice cleanse you can choose from a variety of cleanses. Your options are:
- Standard: Their best selling juice cleanse, it includes 6 bottles per day; each bottle contains 16oz.
- Variety: One of each of their most popular juices per day. 6 bottles per day; each bottle contains 16oz.
- Tropical: This Tropical Juice Cleanse contains a higher fruit content than the other cleanse options. 6 bottles per day; each bottle contains 16oz.
- Lower-Sugar Cleanse: The Low Sugar Green Juice Cleanse is similar to the standard cleanse only they replaced the Pure and Simple juices with Green Party.
- Earth Cleanse: This cleanse is packed with powerful root vegetables. 6 bottles per day; each bottle contains 16oz.
Although Dr. Mistry and Dustin took a 3 day challenge, there are also 1 day, 2 day, 4 day, 5 day, and 10 day challenges available. Daily Juice, and Armor Men’s Health, recommends starting off with a 1-3 day challenge to get your body used to the change. Only participate in 4-5 day challenges if you are more comfortable with a juice cleanse, and the 10 day challenge if you are a juice aficionado, and know your body can handle it. Daily Juice also encourages you to order extra juices per day if you plan on working out heavily, and you feel you’ll need the extra calories.
Want to know how it went? Dustin shared his day by by experience with us, showing that a juice cleanse isn’t always as hard as it seems.
My first thoughts about going 3 days without solid food were, “this is going to be really rough”. The juice tasted great, all of them. Not anything like I was expecting. The first morning went well, I found myself not hungry at all when lunch time rolled around. I was spacing out my juices about 3 hours apart. I was having to remind myself to keep drinking, because I was not hungry. I made it through the first night no problem.
Morning started out fine, slight headache (which was likely due to caffeine/sugar detox). I definitely felt more energy around lunch time than normal, and I did not experience that “afternoon lull” that I normally experience after lunch. Everything was going well, still no real hunger, but definitely a desire to “eat something”.
Woke feeling great, had a great nights sleep, workout went well. Everyone I worked out with was shocked when I told them I had only had juice for the last two days. I made it through the rest of the day with plenty of energy.
The biggest lesson I was reminded throughout the 3 days, was that your body can be fueled many different ways. Although I wasn’t hungry, I still thought “I needed to eat”. This is mostly a psychological compulsion and not a physiological one. It is an eye opening experience and it shows what kind of impact a whole food diet can have on your life.
In short: Our 3 Day Juice Cleanse was a game changer. If you’re concerned about keeping up a whole food diet after the cleanse you can opt in for coaching with Daily Juice for $20.
